FAQS

Many times, we receive questions about

In a world where preferences and tastes vary, there is a book that manages to captivate some with its content while others find solace in the soothing voices that bring its words to life. It’s a personal choice that speaks to the diversity of individuals. As society has progressed, literacy has become more widespread, granting many the ability to read and write. However, when contemplating the vast journey of life, we realize that animals have gained knowledge through their sense of hearing, perhaps suggesting the innate power of auditory learning.

Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life, some individuals struggle to find the time to immerse themselves in the pages of a book. Perhaps they spend hours behind the wheel, navigating through traffic. Others endure lengthy commutes on buses or trains. Regardless of the reasons, there are countless people who yearn to delve into the profound teachings of Dhamma books, but time eludes them. It is in this predicament that the concept of Dhamma books transformed into audio books emerges as a great aid.

By transforming these spiritual texts into audio form, a multitude of individuals can now access and absorb the wisdom contained within them. The convenience of audio books allows those with busy lives to seamlessly incorporate the pursuit of knowledge into their daily routines. Whether it’s during a long drive, a tedious commute, or even during moments of relaxation, the availability of Dhamma books as audio books offers a significant helping hand to those seeking enlightenment and spiritual growth.

So, in this ever-evolving world, where time is a precious commodity, the creation of Dhamma audio books serves as a valuable resource for individuals yearning to expand their understanding and connection with the teachings. It bridges the gap between the desire for wisdom and the limitations imposed by a hectic lifestyle, ensuring that the transformative power of literature can be accessed by all who seek it.

Many people have asked us if our audiobooks are for the blind. The short answer is no, but we understand that audiobooks can be beneficial for people with visual impairments. However, our primary target audience is not the blind community. This is because audiobooks are not yet very popular in Sri Lanka. In other countries, audiobooks are more widely used, regardless of age. Some authors even release their work in both audiobook and print formats. We are optimistic that the popularity of audiobooks will increase in Sri Lanka, as more and more people become aware of the benefits they offer.

The central focus here is on the content of these books, which revolve around the teachings of the Blessed One, known as the Dhamma. These books derive their sustenance from this profound doctrine. Can anyone legitimately lay exclusive claim to this Sri Dharma as their own?

If we were to consider the acquisition of such rights, it raises the question of how much ownership the Venerable Arahant Ananda Thero and subsequent Sanghayanas hold over the teachings that emanated from the Blessed One’s words and were disseminated to the world. How much right do the first, second, and third Sanghayana have? It prompts us to reflect on the rights they accrued through generations of devoted custodianship.

The generation of colleagues who embodied this Dhamma know how difficult it is to prepare a puskola poth and write on it. How many people must have come and gone? When local and foreign forces were looking for monasteries and setting fire to book caves, how many Sangha people and lay worshipers died to save the Dharma books, including the Tripitaka?

Please, whose names and villages are included in this group? Is it mentioned anywhere? Not even a nominal mention.

”But if any author directly informs us to remove my book from the library, we are ready to remove it without any hesitation.”

– Certain authors have personally granted us permission to utilize the works of, and some authors have expressed gratitude for our efforts in making their books accessible as audiobooks. –

Therefore, it is the responsibility of the members who read the Dhamma books to ensure that the author is happy with the way they are being read. If you do this, the author will bless you in their heart, even if they do not praise you in words.

I hope this is more readable and easier to understand. Let me know if you have any other questions.

This program is not made by professional audiobook makers. Since they are a group of volunteers who have participated in this program in good faith, it is possible that they may make mistakes. This could include mispronouncing Pali words or making grammatical errors.

However, this does not mean that we do not care about the quality of this program. We are especially concerned about it and we encourage the volunteers to do their best. We appreciate their dedication to this program and we believe that they will improve over time.

If there are any shortcomings on our part, we kindly ask the original authors of these books and all those who love these Dhamma books not to take it as a disservice to the Dharma.

We believe that the most important thing is to share the Dhamma with as many people as possible. Even if there are some mistakes, the overall message of the Dhamma will still be conveyed.

We are grateful for the volunteers who have made this program possible. We believe that their efforts will be of great benefit to the world.

This issue comes up in many different forms. Let’s think about it carefully. Imagine going to a public library and removing all the books written by authors you don’t like. Only the books that you approve of should be there. There are mistakes in these books, so have you asked to remove them? How foolish and ridiculous would that be?

We are all different, and our likes and dislikes are shaped by our different ideologies. This is also true when it comes to the Dharma. Some people prefer to listen to the teachings of certain teachers, while others prefer others. There are many reasons for this, such as the teacher’s style of teaching, the content of their teachings, or our own personal preferences.

Even a writer we like may say things that we don’t agree with. There may be things that are clearly wrong. This could be a mistake, or it could be because of a wrong view. Or, it could be right, but we simply think it’s wrong. If you don’t want to read the books of a certain author, simply don’t read them. There are plenty of other Dharma books available.

The shortest answer is, “Attaṁ Ganhāti, Anattaṁ Riñcati”

If we don’t like the books that are available, we can choose not to read them. But we cannot censor or remove them from the library, just because we don’t agree with them.

Anyone can be a member, regardless of age. School-age children can also participate in reading and editing books. When choosing books to read, it is best to choose books with a language style that they can easily pronounce.

We are looking for people with the right attitude for this program, rather than specific skills. Skills can be learned, but attitude is more important. We especially value an honest and sincere commitment to preaching.

  1. Computer or Mobile Phone: You will need either a computer or a mobile phone to record the audiobook. Both options have their advantages and limitations, so choose based on your preference and the available resources.

  2. Microphone and Equipment: If you opt for recording on a computer, it is recommended to use appropriate equipment, including a microphone. There are various options available in the market at different price points. To assist you in selecting the right equipment, we have provided a link below that showcases a collection of approved gear. Alternatively, if you choose to record on a mobile phone, the built-in microphone in most smartphones nowadays can produce high-quality audio. We encourage you to utilize it for recording purposes.

  3. Specialized Recording App: When recording on a mobile phone, it is advisable to avoid using the usual recording app and instead opt for a specialized app designed for audiobook recording. These apps are specifically tailored to capture high-quality audio and offer additional features to enhance the recording process.

By ensuring you have the necessary gear, whether it’s a computer or mobile phone, along with a suitable microphone and specialized recording app, you can create a professional and captivating audiobook recording. Remember to choose the option that best suits your needs and resources.

Yes, your points are very valid. Most of the people who volunteer to read books for this program do not have the skills to edit audio recordings. They may also not have access to a computer, which can make it difficult for them to edit the recordings.

The expectation of all the volunteers is that the books they read will be added to the library as soon as possible. In this environment, it is very important for us to have people who can remove mistakes and edit the recordings.

  1. Computer: A laptop or desktop computer is essential for editing audiobook audio. Editing on a mobile phone is not practical due to the limitations of screen size and processing power.

  2. Editing Software: You will need suitable software for audio editing. Popular options among our members include Adobe Audition and Audacity. These software tools provide a range of features for editing, enhancing, and refining the audio quality.

  3. Headphones: Two pairs of headphones are often recommended for audiobook editing. This allows for better precision and accuracy when fine-tuning the audio. With headphones, you can catch subtle details and make precise adjustments to ensure the best quality for the final product.
